Korea, it was cold and I loved it (I)

By rachellow · April 19, 2010 · 0 Comments · 14 Views

I've been (silly, and oddly) avoiding updating details regarding my trip because, well.. there are too many pictures to filter through and I guess a 9D7N story would be too lengthy to share. So I'll cut everything short and paste 3 links which will direct you to my trip's pictures with short captions (on Facebook, even if you're not a member you can view them) to those who are interested :)

4 Days in Seoul, South Korea

I know it's waaaay overdue (this post) but here's the perfect chance to use this phrase "it's never too late"?? Blah blah :x Anyway, shall I pick out a few pictures? (I'm so afraid I'll pick too many - cause I want to share so many on my blog! - so I'll try real hard to pick only A FEW ok?)

Winter had just ended when I arrived in South Korea, but it was still chilly and nice :) I think almost everyday was good-hair-day <3

I don't know why I got so psyched up about seeing cherry blossoms a.k.a. sakura when I was in Korea. There were two places I went to with blooming flowers. Flowers are really pretty, don't you think? :) Anywaaaay. I was expecting these cherry blossoms to be... well, PINK. (I always thought all cherry blossoms are pink!) But if you look really closely, they are white with a tinge of pink. Maybe the ones you find in Japan and in Korea are different. Ha!

The first night in Jeju, we joined a free night tour organised by Yeha Guesthouse, the place we stayed at for 3 nights. It's a nice clean place with heated ondol flooring and heated mattresses. They also have 3 available PCs for free Internet usage plus free international phone calls, and every night there's Happy Hour which means free drink ^^ The people there are really friendly too!

NIGHT TOUR (1) - Sabongnakjo

Where you can enjoy the view of the sunset and the bobbing fishing boats on the sea of Jeju from the lighthouse. (Adapted from website) ...But well, the bobbing boats you see in my picture isn't particularly....scenic :x And you might find it a bit hard to spot the sunset, so squint a little. Do you get the picture I put together below?? (Me looking through the telescope - is that what it's called? - to spot the sunset)

The lady in yellow/green is also a guest of Yeha Guesthouse, but was kind enough to help translate the tour in English for us who didn't understand Korean :)

NIGHT TOUR (2) - Dongmun Market Place

It's a wet/dry market. My ' interesting takeaway' from this place? Stalls selling raw fish have 'inner stalls' where you can dine and have raw sliced fish! :)

NIGHT TOUR (3) - Yongyeon Bridge

Where salt water and fresh water meet, the name of the bridge is derived from an old legend that dragons used to play there. (Adapted from website) ..Later at night, it was cold, cold, cold, so damn cold. The gloves didn't work at all. Cold = shiver and suffer? Yes and/or No. The cold made me and Syarina - me, especially - very happy people. Ha!

NIGHT TOUR (4) - Dragon Head Rock

Can you spot the 'head'?

NIGHT TOUR (5) - Coast Road

Want to see how windy it was?

I look like I have a moustache, don't I? :D:D:D

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We met some nice Korean ladies from the Night Tour. Two of them were exceptionally helpful and provided us with directions and recommendations <3

Oh dear. It's ONLY the Night Tour and I've posted so many pictures already :S:S:S:S:S

West Course Tour (1) - O'Sulloc Tea Museum

The O’sulloc Museum teaches visitors about Korea’s traditional tea culture. The “o” in “O’sulloc”, means to appreciate and enjoy. It also stands for the origin of sulloc, only sulloc, and of sulloc tea. (Adapted from website) ..Well, you go there and have to buy something authentic to try right? I tried both their chocolates (Dark Chocolate with Green Tea Powder & Chocolate Coated Truffle??) and they are a-m-a-z-i-n-g!

In Myeongdong, Seoul, you can find O'Sulloc Tea House which serves tea(s), cakes, cookies, shaved ice, ice-cream, etcetera. Omg, if I had more time and more money, I would love to have dined there :(:(:( All I could afford were the chocolates at that time. Siiiigh.

Look, the exterior of the tea house is pretty good huh? I don't know why, I forgot the take pictures INSIDE. *smacks own forehead*

West Course Tour (2) - Hallim Park

There were sweet looking plants and flowers, there were 2 small caves, there was a mini waterfall, a small folk village, this bird safari, and more plaaaaants.

West Course Tour (3) - Hyeopjae Beach

Dear friend, you probably already know I have a thing for beaches. The clear blue waters, sky + soft sand. I would love to have strolled along the beach bare-footed. But No. 1 there was not enough time and No. 2 my feet would have frozen to death.

West Course Tour (4) - Jusangjeoli Rocks

The effect of wind blowing and waves splashing. Cool huh?

West Course Tour (5) - Yakcheonsa

The largest Buddhist building in Asia (according to a web source)

West Course Tour (6) - Jeongbang Waterfall

We were given an hour at this attraction. I think we spent more time climbing all the way down and back up, compared to the duration we spent there. But it was fun, following Korean children throw rocks in the waters. Ha-ha...

Jeju Cherry Blossom Festival 2010

Our guide dropped us off at the Cherry Blossom Festival (approx. 30 minutes walk away from our guesthouse). Frankly speaking, it was more of a food festival for Syarina and I! Om nom nom....

OMG I WANT TO PINCH HER CHEEKS O.O

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

East Course Tour (1) - Seong-eup Folk Village

Villagers who continue living in old Jeju custom and tradition. There were these 3 elderly ladies who asked us tourists in to try a food item they were making. How sweet of them :)

East Course Tour (2) - Seopjikoji

Said to be one of the famous filming site for "All In" ..although I've never really heard or seen the drama until I googled about this place :P

East Course Tour (3) - Seongsan Ilchulbong

East Course Tour (4) - Manjanggul Lava Tube

The longest lava cave in the world. Registered as a World Natural Heritage Site.

East Course Tour (5) - Folklore & Natural Museum

This was one of the most boring place :x

East Course Tour (6) - Mysterious Road

Cars without power appear to go uphill by themselves. Except it's just an optical illusion.

To be continued... I'm tired already, HAHA. I bet you are too :x
